Lucknow: Posters declaring Congress president Sonia Gandhi as “missing” have appeared in her Lok Sabha constituency in Rae Bareli.

Dozens of such posters were put up overnight at Gora Bazaar, Mahanandpur and the Government Colony in Rae Bareli.

The posters described the UPA chairperson as "missing" along with "a reward for anyone who can locate her".

Sonia Gandhi has not visited her parliamentary constituency this year and Rahul has not visited his parliamentary constituency Amethi since February, when he came to canvass support for Congress candidates during the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

Earlier this month, posters describing local MP and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi as "missing" had come up in his Amethi parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

The posters, were pasted at various places in the city, carried a picture of Gandhi with a message below it:

“Amethi ke man-niya saansad amethi se lapata hain. (Respected Amethi parliamentarian is missing from Amethi).”

Lucknow: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will kick-start his three-day visit to his constituency Amethi from Wednesday.

The Gandhi scion's trip to his parliamentary constituency generated headlines after district authorities in Amethi suggested a postponement citing security concerns. However, they gave the permission to visit his parliamentary constituency on Monday.

Earlier, the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police had urged the Amethi MP to postpone his visit due to security reasons on account of Durga Puja, Muharram and Gandhi Jayanti.

The letter angered the Congress workers and party leaders alleged that the administration was trying to prevent Rahul Gandhi from visiting Amethi.

Gandhi would land in Lucknow on Wednesday and leave for Amethi by road, stopping at villages to meet people before staying the night at the Munshiganj guest house.

On October 5, he is scheduled to hold a 'janta darshan' at the guest house and meet party workers at Rajiv Gandhi college in Tiloi and in Salon before calling it a day at the Bhuemau (Raebareli) guest house.

On the last day of his visit, he will hold a 'janta darshan' in Raebareli and meet workers there.

Amethi: Continuing his tirade against the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that the BJP government has failed to deliver on tall promises which it made to the people of India.

Speaking to reporters on the second day of his Amethi visit, Rahul Gandhi said, ''The BJP government is taking credit for the good works done by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government here."

The Gandhi scion also read out a list of achievements of the UPA in Amethi that included six national highways, a 200-bed hospital, the Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University in Fursatgunj, and a SAIL unit in Jagdishpur, among others.

"I`m happy for our friends in the BJP, who are trying to re-inaugurate these projects, but we did the work in Amethi," Gandhi said.

Continuing with the criticism of the NDA-led government, the Congress vice-president said that the government is not addressing two major crises in the country - unemployment and agrarian crisis.

"Our Prime Minister should accept the crisis and start working to resolve it instead of panicking and making excuses," Gandhi said, adding that Prime Minister Modi is diverting the topic by talks of 'Swachh Bharat' and 'Make in India' campaign.

He also gave a piece of "advice" for PM Modi by saying, "The Prime Minister should stand up and say `yes, we have not delivered`. We have one more year; we will deliver. That is what a true leader would do."

On the issue of rising unemployment, the Congress no. 2 said, ''There is a real serious problem in India today that we are unable to provide jobs to our youngsters.''

''China produces 50,000 jobs every single day. India, under PM Modi's 'Make In India', 'Start Up/Stand Up India', produces mere 450 jobs,'' Rahul said.

Rahul Gandhi began his three-day visit to his parliamentary constituency on Wednesday.

On his first day, Gandhi stressed on similar issues and claimed that the ruling dispensation has failed to provide jobs and secure farm incomes.

He also remarked that the BJP should go and let the Congress party take over in this case.

New Delhi: Union minister Smriti Irani on Monday accused Rahul Gandhi of "insulting" the people of Gujarat and claimed that the Congress will suffer what she called a "historic defeat" in the upcoming assembly polls.

Irani's attack on the Congress vice president came after he mocked the BJP's development model in Gujarat at his public meetings in the poil-bound state.

Gandhi's remarks confirm that he is not only anti- progress but also mocks the idea of a developed and empowered India, she alleged in a statement, adding that he and his party prefer vote bank politics to 'vikas' (development).

"The manner in which Rahul Gandhi has made fun of the dreams and aspirations of the people of Gujarat will lead to a historic defeat for the Congress party in the state election," said the Union minister for textiles and information and broadcasting in a statement.

Development is not something to be ridiculed, instead it should be welcomed but what Rahul Gandhi is doing in Gujarat is to insult the dreams and aspirations of 6.5 crore Gujaratis, she said.

Gandhi should devote time to Amethi, his Lok Sabha seat, as it needs more development works, she said, claiming that people of Amethi are asking for 'vikas' even as their MP goes around the nation mocking 'vikas'.

"Those mocking development in Gujarat may perhaps like to respond to their apathy towards the basic needs of people of Amethi," she tweeted later.

Tall Gujarati leaders like Sardar Patel and Morarji Desai were humiliated by the Nehru-Gandhi family, Irani alleged.

This trend continued when Narendra Modi, now prime minister, was the state's chief minister as the then UPA government "obstructed" raising of height of Narmada Dam, thus denying its benefits to lakhs of farmers, she said.

"For decades, the Congress party and particularly the Nehru-Gandhi family, has been anti-Gujarat," she claimed.

The rule of the Congress was a 'sultanate of corruption' and now the opposition party is "concocting stories to defame the people of Gujarat" before the election, she alleged.

"The people of Gujarat will give a befitting answer to this slander and keep this sultanate of corruption as far from them as possible," she said.

Addressing a gathering in Kamla village in Kheda district, Gandhi alleged that the famed Gujarat model of development had failed.

"Prime minister Narendra Modi and the people of Gujarat know that the so-called Gujarat model has failed.

"If we come to power, we will propagate the old Gujarat model under which cooperative societies like Amul developed," he said.

The Congress has latched onto a social media meme in Gujarat, which says "development has gone mad", to poke fun at the BJP's claim of development in the state.

The BJP in turn has accused it of fuelling the social media campaign and asserted that people will reward it handsomely for its development works.

Soon after her arrival at Chowdhary Charan Singh Airport in Lucknow, she drove in a cavalcade to Amethi, from where she had unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections against Rahul.

New Delhi: BJP national president Amit Shah arrived in Lucknow from where he will proceed to Amethi, which is considered a traditional Congress bastion, on Tuesday.

The BJP chief will be addressing a public rally in Amethi today.

Shah's Amethi visit comes just three days after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi wrapped up a high-profile tour of his Lok Sabha constituency.

Shah has a slew of programmes lined up in Amethi, Sitapur and Lucknow districts, according to a release from the BJP chief's office.

These include addressing a public meeting and inaugurating a number of other development projects in Amethi.

Union Textiles and Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani, who was the BJP candidate against Rahul Gandhi in the last Lok Sabha election, had already reached Amethi to oversee the preparations for Shah’s meetings.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is also expected to meet the two BJP leaders in Amethi.

Beneficiaries of various schemes will be handed over certificates, a statement issued by the UP government said.

Amethi, which has traditionally been a Congress bastion, had witnessed a high-pitched electoral battle in the 2014 Lok Sabha election between Rahul Gandhi and Smriti Irani.

Though Irani lost to the Congress leader, she reduced his victory margin from around 3.70 lakh in 2009 to 1.07 lakh in 2014.

Importantly, in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly election, the BJP won six of the 10 assembly seats falling under the parliamentary constituencies of Amethi and Rae Bareli.

Meanwhile, even before Shah's arrival in Amethi, the Congress had already received a severe jolt, when Gandhi family loyalist, UP Congress general secretary and former Congress legislator from Gauriganj (Amethi) Jung Bahadur Singh resigned from the party.

Siugh is tipped to join BJP now.

Rahul, during his visit on October 5, had accused the BJP governments at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh of re-inaugurating the projects launched by the previous UPA regime in the district.

He asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the unemployment problem and farmers’ issues, and dared him to allow the Congress to resolve the problems in six months.

AMETHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday launched an all out attack on Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi, accusing them of trying to grab land in Amethi in the name of Rajiv Gandhi Trust.

Lashing out at Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath said, "Earlier only son-in-law tried to grab land, but now even son is trying to do that, but it won't be possible in Uttar Pradesh."

"We'll develop Amethi along with the entire Uttar Pradesh," added Adityanath.

He said that it is the Modi government which ensures that Amethi gets basic amenities such as power and water.

BJP national president Amit Shah arrived in Amethi along with Union textile minister Smriti Irani and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday.

Taking a shot at Gandhis over development of Amethi, Shah said, "I want to ask Shehzada Rahul Gandhi that Amethi elected your family for three generations, yet why didn't you do anything for the constituency. I have been in public life for over 30 years, but never saw that an elected representative never visits his constituency, but the one not elected visits it regularly."

Referring to the two models of development in country, Shah said that the country has witnessed just two model -- "the Gandhi-Nehru model and the other is Modi model."

"Next time when Yogi comes to seek your vote, he will come with an Uttar Pradesh which is as developed as Gujarat," he added.

Referring to the previous UPA regime, Shah said the BJP was give the country a Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) who speaks. "You gave us a PM who never spoke to people."

Taking the podium, Irani said that Amethi is a burden for the Congress vice-president. "Rahul and Sonia never listen to the problems of people (in Amethi). They keep travelling across the country, but talk about Amethi and they'll freeze," she said.

“Being Amethi's didi (elder sister) has been my biggest fortune,” she said, adding, “We sisters are not egoistic. It's our duty to focus on the development.”

Sources told Zee News that the BJP is planning to send its firebrand leaders to Amethi and Rae Bareli every week.

While interacting with students at Vadodara, Gandhi said that if his party comes to power in Gujarat, it would work for the common people and not just two-three businessmen.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi from their home turf Amethi. Accusing the Gandhis of always ignoring their own constituencies, BJP trio of party chief Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Smriti Irani targeted the mother-son duo full throttle.

According to sources, this is just the start of a new offensive by the ruling party against the Congress leadership.

Sources have told Zee News that the BJP has planned to send its firebrand leaders to Amethi and Rae Bareli every week. This is being done by the party to ensure that the Gandhis remain confined to their bastion and don’t concentrate on other parts of the country.

Leading the attack from Amethi on Tuesday was BJP president Amit Shah, who unleashed a personal attack on Rahul Gandhi.

“I want to ask Shehzada Rahul Gandhi that Amethi elected your family for three generations, yet why didn't you do anything for the constituency,” Shah said. “When you blame the current government , you should have questioned your great grandfather, your grandmother, your mother and your father on why nothing was done for people who voted you to power,” he added.

Smriti Irani also accused the Gandhis of never listening to the common people. "Sonia and Rahul never listen to the problems of people. They keep travelling across the country, but talk about Amethi and they'll freeze," she said.

This comes amid Rahul Gandhi’s Gujarat visit where he has launched an offensive against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. He has accused the BJP government in the state and the Centre of working for only two-three businessmen.

“If Congress comes to power in Gujarat, we will not work for just two or three businessmen, instead we will work for you and listen to your criticism,” said Rahul Gandhi while addressing a group of students in Gujarat on Tuesday.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he further said, “We will listen to you, and not do our own Mann ki baat.

NEW DELHI: The BJP has said it would focus on bringing its heavyweight leaders to Amethi. The idea ostensibly is to wrest the constituency from its present holder, Rahul Gandhi. But it is not just about defeating the Congress princeling, but to launch an attack on a region that is considered a fortress for the Congress.

Here are 10 points that explain the BJP’s focus on Amethi:

    1.  Amethi Constituency was formed in 1967. Since then, the candidates tied to Indira Gandhi or her family members have lost only twice.

    2.  The first time was in 1977, when the Congress was routed in the Hindi belt after Emergency. The only other time the Congress lost in Amethi was in 1998, when the BJP won by a slender 3.9 percent vote margin.

    3.  Out of 15 Lok Sabha elections held in Amethi, members of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty have won nine times.

    4.  Four members of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty have been elected from Amethi – Sanjay Gandhi (1980), Rajiv Gandhi (1981, 1984, 1989 and 1991), Sonia Gandhi (1999) and Rahul Gandhi (2004, 2009 and 2014).

    5.  The adjoining Rae Bareli Constituency is also a bastion for the Nehru-Gandhi family and the Congress. Nehru-Gandhi family members have won 13 of the 19 elections held in Rae Bareli. It was the seat of choice of Indira Gandhi and is presently represented by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

    6.  The Nehru-Gandhis have almost always won with massive margins in Amethi – 1.29 lakh (1980), 2.38 lakh (1981),  3.15 lakh (1984), 2.02 lakh (1989), 1.12 lakh (1991), 3 lakh (1999), 2.91 lakh (2004), 3.7 lakh (2009).

    7.  However, Rahul Gandhi’s margin of victory was hugely dented in the 2014 Lok Sabha election. BJP’s Smriti Irani thinned the margin to 1.08 lakh votes. This was the smallest margin of victory for a Nehru-Gandhi in Amethi.

    8.  Amethi and Rae Bareli were the only two constituencies the Congress won in Uttar Pradesh in 2014.

    9.  By targeting the two constituencies, the BJP seemingly hopes that it would succeed in turning these pocket boroughs into distractions for Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, dragging them away from attempts to revive the Congress Party.

    10.  Also, in the event it succeeds in wresting even one of these two seats away from the Nehru-Gandhis, it would be a massive symbolic victory for the BJP.
